Position Overview
The Director of Student Services plays a vital leadership role in shaping the student experience and school culture at Longview School. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position is responsible for developing and implementing vision-driven goals, managing student support services, supervising a dedicated team, and ensuring all students receive exceptional behavioral and academic support in a safe, structured environment.
This role requires a passionate leader with strong special education expertise, crisis management skills, and a commitment to community partnership.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Vision
Develop and articulate a clear vision for Longview School's growth and direction
Establish strategic goals and measurable objectives aligned with the school's mission
Collaborate with the Executive Director to set policy, procedures, and operational guidelines
Create and update school rules, expectations, and policies to maintain a safe, consistent environment
Staff & Program Management
Supervise, evaluate, and mentor teaching and support staff on a scheduled basis
Manage hiring, onboarding, and staff replacement processes
Oversee staff meetings, professional development initiatives, and curriculum implementation
Ensure adherence to established policies and procedures across all programs
Facilitate the Adventure-Based Learning (ABL) curriculum as a program leader, collaborating with ABL teams to plan and sequence activities throughout the school year
Student Support & Behavior Management
Implement and oversee the school's Behavior Management System
Respond to students in crisis or exhibiting acting-out behaviors, providing de-escalation and emotional regulation support
Ensure students regain emotional control before returning to classroom environments
Provide case management services, including IEP development, progress monitoring/reporting, and family communication
Family & Community Engagement
Serve as primary liaison to families, public school districts, and RSEC (Regional Special Education Collaborative)
Attend and actively participate in Program Director Team Meetings and RSEC Board Meetings
Explore and develop partnerships with local organizations and community resources
Lead or participate in community events, speaking engagements, and advisory board activities
Summer Programming
Plan and direct all 17-day summer services, ensuring continuity of student support and programming
Compliance & Professional Development
Maintain New Hampshire certification as a Special Educator and Special Education Administrator (or actively pursue Special Education Administrator certification)
Attend and complete all required training based on role-specific competencies, field requirements, and ABL program needs
Adhere to policies outlined in the RSEC Personnel Handbook and Longview Staff Procedures and Guidelines
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director
Qualifications & Requirements
Certifications & Education
Valid New Hampshire Special Educator credential
Special Education Administrator or Principal credential required(or enrollment in certification process)
Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or related field preferred
Experience & Skills
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in special education or student services leadership
Demonstrated expertise in behavior management and crisis intervention
Experience developing and facilitating IEPs
Knowledge of Adventure-Based Learning or wilderness therapy approaches preferred
Strong supervisory and staff evaluation experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proven ability to build collaborative relationships with families, educators, and community partners
Organizational and project management skills
Problem-solving ability and comfort navigating complex student and family dynamics

Schedule & Compensation
School Year: 190 days (standard academic calendar)
Summer Services: 17 days of required programming leadership
