Child Check

Eligibility & Participation

Child Check is a free school district provided screening service for any child under the age of six year old who resides in the towns of Milford, Lyndeborough, and Wilton, NH. Children do not have to reside in the town hosting the screening, and after making an appointment, may attend screenings hosted by any of the above towns.

If you would like to have a developmental screening for your child or suspect that your child may not be developing skills at age appropriate times, you may wish to have him/her screened at the Child Check. Specialists screen children's overall development including speech/language, cognitive skills, motor, vision, and hearing. Results are shared with parents at the time of the Child Check. Appointments are required.

The Milford, Lyndeborough, and Wilton school districts have contracted with the Regional Services & Education Center, Inc., (RSEC) to coordinate the Child Check screenings to assess the general developmental levels of area preschool children. The school districts are responsible for screening children for possible educational disabilities.

The earlier a child’s needs are recognized, the greater the chance that your child can be helped to overcome any problems he/she may have. If a need is identified during the Child Check, a more detailed evaluation may be recommended to your school district.

Screenings are conducted by trained professionals who have experience working with young children, and are fun for the children. Parents can always be present during screenings.

RSEC conducts three to half-day Saturday morning screenings throughout the school year – October through April. Parents can make appointments by leaving a message for Jane at 886-8500, Ext. 317. Children will be scheduled for the next available date and time. Screenings are also available for children under age 3.
