Essential Question:

Choose one project. Make sure that you complete all of the paperwork that is required such as the contract, the planning paperwork and any other notes or drafts of your project.

Mathematical/Logical (Number Smart): Take a poll of your peers substance use.  You will then take the data that you collect and compare it to the national statistics of teen drug use. You will have to create a questionnaire that can be administered in an anonymous fashion so that your peers will be willing to answer your questions.

Linguistic (Word Smart): Find some current events around teens and substance abuse (within the last year). What are people saying about substance abuse? Tell us in a paper or a power point or a paper format. You will basically complete a review of each piece where you write an explanation of what you read and what you think about the information.

Spatial (Art Smart): Watch one hour of TV for 5 nights. How many alcohol/medication/cigarette/Tobacco ads do you see? What shows are you watching when you see this? Do you think that these ads have an effect on student's use of substances? Keep a diary of your feelings after watching these shows toward the substance commercials.  Finally create a poster to present to the class on what kids of commercials students are seeing during their TV watching time.  The same could be done using 5 different magazines and analyzing the ads in the magazines.

Music: Choose 5 songs from at least 3 different genres and analyze how many drug and alcohol references they include.  Discuss what effect these references have on you.  Is this a positive or a negative effect? In your opinion should this be changed so that students can't or do not listen to this type of music?

Naturalistic (Nature Smart): Most of the illegal drugs that people use come from plants.  What plants are used to make drugs or alcohol? How are they used? Are there plants that have legal and illegal purposes? The basics of this project are researching the plants used in drugs and alcohol. Create a poster or a power point or brochure to show us the plants used and how they are used and what else we get from these same plants.

Interpersonal (People Smart): Choose a debate partner.  One of you will argue for the legalization of Marijuana the other will argue against it.  You will debate in front of the class and this will count as your presentation to us.  Make sure that you know both sides so that you can rebut what your partner says.  Be prepared with at least three arguments for your side.

Intrapersonal (Self Smart): What are your attitudes or values associated with substance use and abuse? What influences have to had to make your attitudes what they are?  Write a poem/stories or several journal entries that help you to explain your attitudes, what influenced your attitudes.

Bodily Kinesthetic (Body Smart):
